Welcome to Detroit, also known as “The Motor City” or “The D.” The place where we are known for greeting you with a “what up doe.” Home to some famous such as the late great Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Diana Ross, Berry Gordy, Big Sean, Jalen Rose, Courtney Vance, KEM, and many more…..the list goes on!

Located in Southeast Michigan, Detroit is the heart of the American Automotive industry. The 28-mile long Detroit River separates the United States from Canada, which can be easily accessed by the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel or the Ambassador Bridge. Along the Detroit Riverfront is the Riverwalk which spans more than 3 miles and features several parks and plazas, fountains, a carousel, festivals, walking and biking, restaurants, and hotels. 

Culture

Motown Museum – Home of the Hitsville Studio A, Birthplace of the Motown sound. Founded in 1985 by Ester Gordy Edwards, sister of Barry Gordy, the museum offers an array of Motown artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, and apparel. @motownmuseum

Heidelberg Project – This outdoor environment is an amazing transformation of a street full of vacant lots and abandoned houses into a mammoth work of art. Lots full of art and giant art sculptures now fill Heidelberg street. A must-see on your visit to Detroit. @heidelbergproj

House of Pure VIN – This wine shop offers everything from a wine club to tastings on demand, and a culinary wine experience inclusive of a 3 to 4-course dinner with wine pairings for up to 20 people. Sloppy Chops – Located on the westside of Detroit, Sloppy Chops a premium steakhouse serving prime steaks, homemade pasta, premium seafood, signature entrees, and handcrafted cocktails. The Sloppy Filet and Lobster Fried Tacos are to die for. The upscale atmosphere is very inviting as well as the service. @sloppy__chops

Detroit Vegan Soul – Serving you in 2 locations, on the east and west side of Detroit. With everything being made from scratch and locally sourced, Detroit Vegan Soul brings you a culinary experience of plant-based soul food that is an enticing delight to vegans and non-vegans. @detvegansoul

Ivy Kitchen + Cocktails – Located a few blocks from the Detroit River, near Detroit’s Historic Indian Village, Ivy Kitchen + Cocktails offers a “New American” menu that is inclusive of many cultures. Known best for their charred NY Strip Steak as well as the sweet and savory brunch items. They also offer a variety of craft cocktails to include the Detroit Old Fashioned. @ivy_detroit

Dime Store – The Dime store is a brunch restaurant offering traditional and classics with a twist. Voted “Best Breakfast in Detroit” by Hour Detroit and mentioned in the New York Times as a favorite. Night Life

Baker’s Keyboard Lounge – The World’s Oldest Jazz Club originally opened in 1933. Some of the greatest names in jazz and blues have played at the club, including Cab Calloway, Nat “King” Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughn, and Thelonius Monk. A part of the movie “Sparkle” was filmed at this iconic jazz lounge and the “Same Ole Love” music video by Anita Baker. Currently, you can pop in for lunch during the week and partake in delicious soul food dinners or make it a night on the town for a dinner and jazz experience you can only get at Baker’s. @bakerskeyboardlounge

Cafe D’Mongo Speakeasy – A jazz club, speakeasy, southern/soul food restaurant all in one. This club has been around for decades. The atmosphere is laid back and full of interesting folk. This club is for all ages and backgrounds. Dubbed as an eclectic watering hole, Cafe D’Mongo will night disappoint if you are looking for something out of the norm. @cafedmongo

They Say – This local gathering spot has been serving Detroiters since 2006. Known for their They Say Wings, specialty drinks, and local events to include live music on Friday nights, many flock there for a good time. The original location is located a few blocks from the riverfront; a second location serves Detroit’s Eastsiders. @theysayrestaurant

Flood’s Bar and Grill – Certainly a staple in Detroit’s Nightlife, Flood’s Bar and Grill has been open for 32 plus years. They are known for their soul food cuisine, Happy Hour, block parties, Dj’s and live music. On a given night, you can learn the latest hustles and ballroom dances. This happening spot will not disappoint on a night out on the town in The Motor City. @floodsdetroit
