Nine Experiences Dating a Single Mom
January 13, 2021
My girlfriend introduces me to her daughter
Daughter bites me.
Her daughter glares at me as if to say, “I don’t care who you are,”
Crawls to her mom.
I understand the peace in her arms too.
We eat Chipotle.
Only ordered it once,
Yet she remembers my order
She somehow manages to eat,
Keep me company,
Feed her daughter
At the same time.
My girlfriend’s daughter starts to cry.
She calmly holds her daughter until she stops.
She is so attractive when she’s being all motherly
She isn’t sleeping much this week
She’s juggling being healthy, being a mom, a student, an employee, and a good person.
She struggles to eat some days
She fears she isn’t enough for her daughter
She clutches her daughter as if she is afraid to lose her
Her daughter clutches her back as if to say, you are doing great mama
I tell my girlfriend Good night.
She begs me to text her that I made it home.
No matter what she is going through,
She still manages to care for everyone.
That’s great mom energy.
Today, her daughter calls me Aq.
Two letters in my 9 letter name
As if my name is slowly becoming worthy of her tongue.
I look forward to earning the remaining seven letters
Because they are worth it
