Hello Friends, Jemia here.
I am excited that you have joined me on this new adventure. Before I tell you all about this new platform for ALL Black women, allow me to reintroduce myself.
I created the @BlackWifeLife handle on Instagram on a whim. I was looking for a place to share images of Black love that were real and authentic. I was recently engaged, and I wanted to see more pictures of what my life and journey would look like as I entered wife-hood.
What I soon discovered is that I was not the only person looking for this. I had single, divorced, engaged, and married women all looking for the same thing. A place of connection. An authentic place.
I have followed relationship and marriage pages on social media for a while, but I never quite found the one, except for @BlackLove, that told stories that I wanted to see and hear. So I created my own.
What makes my Instagram community unique in a digital world of many similar profiles is the real feel of the people, couples, and families. I also use the captions not just to tell you who is in the image, but I create a narrative of my own.
Now, a little over a year later, the next phase in #BWL has begun. TheBlackWifeLife.com is for every Black woman. It’s for the Black woman who is single, married, engaged, or divorced. It is for the 22-year-old and the 65-year-old. It is a place where real stories come to life and community.
WHAT’S TO COME?
Think Essence + Medium + The Root. Our team of writers look forward to sharing…
- stories of finding love unexpectedly
- challenges of being married and how to overcome obstacles
- personal dating stories
- social justice
- curated playlist
- hustle and career tips
- + so much more…
I have a team of 10+ writers who are eager and excited to share their personal experience with dating, marriage, divorce, wellness, community and so much more. Our writers have various skill levels, some are published authors and others just picked up writing as a hobby. I am elated that I can give Black writers a platform to grow and share.
TheBlackWifeLife.com is a place for everyone. Yes, “wife” is in the title, but none of us were born wives. We all had a journey to get there. If you are someone who aspires to be married one day, this is still a place for you. If you support, honor, and respect Black women, this place is for you.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. If you love my Instagram profile, you will love this even more.
